High School Concerts

The full Austin Symphony Orchestra (ASO) participates in an annual High School Concert tour, this year traveling to five high schools and serving approximately 4,000 students. Thematic and interdisciplinary in approach, the theme for 2020 is “Musical Transcendence: Resisting Oppression.” The High School program features a side-by-side for band and orchestra students from participating schools. In 2019-20, the ASO received a fifth year of funding from the NEA to continue our connecting with music initiative in partnership with AISD. This is a semester-long thematic, interdisciplinary learning initiative around the concert repertoire. At the culmination of the project, students share original works based on the theme.

A special highlight of these concerts is showcasing outstanding band and orchestra students from each school, who play side-by-side with ASO musicians.
