“American Landscapes”
Show guest artist bio
  • where: Dell Hall directions
  • conductor: Peter Bay

Celebrate America’s beauty with compositions written by American composers, inspired by the sights and sounds of the place we call home. Copland’s The Heiress Suite, created from the Oscar winning score to The Heiress film, opens the evening program. Pianist John Novacek first joins the Symphony for Gould’s Interplay, and after intermission, for Gershwin’s famous Rhapsody in Blue, which combines jazz rhythms with classical elements. Putting nature’s beauty into song is the Grand Canyon Suite by Grofé, the conclusion to just some of the breathtaking landscapes we get to experience.

Still want more? How about playing on some instruments provided by our friends at Strait Music.? We also have a wonderful pre-concert talk given by Bob Buckalew at 7:10 pm. How about “tweeting” with our musicians and ASO staff? Take a photo in front of our photo wall. Come experience music that is “Larger Than Life!” Feeling a little peckish? Our friends at Spectrum Catering will be offering meal options outside on the Terrace and also on the Mezzanine level.
