AUSTIN, TX – The Austin Symphony Orchestra (ASO) opens their season with pieces by three prominent Russian composers, Alexander Glazunov, Sergei Rachmaninoff and Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. A newcomer to the ASO is the very talented pianist, Lise de la Salle. She will perform Rachmaninoff’s beloved Piano Concerto No. 1 after the opening composition, one that the ASO has never performed, Glazunov’s Carnaval Overture. Tchaikovsky’s very popular Manfred Symphony is both powerful and dramatic, the perfect ending for the closer of a season opener!

In just a few years, through her international concert appearances and her award-winning Naïve recordings, 29 year-old Lise de la Salle has established a reputation as one of today’s most exciting young artists and as a musician of uncommon sensibility and maturity. She has played with many of the world’s leading orchestras and conductors. She made her London Symphony Orchestra debut with Fabio Luisi, and in 2016 returned to the orchestra with Antonio Pappano. Luisi, who invited her to become the first Artist-in-Residence of the Zurich Opera in 2014, has also frequently featured de la Salle with the Vienna Symphony, including a performance in New York on the Great Performers Series at Lincoln Center. In the U.S., de la Salle has played with the Boston Symphony, Chicago Symphony at the Ravinia Festival, San Francisco Symphony and with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, among others.

Representatives from Violins Etc. return this season, supplying string instruments and giving quick lessons on how to play before the performance and during intermission. Another pre-performance offering is our well-attended “Concert Conversations” from 7:10 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. with Bob Buckalew. Buckalew discusses the evening’s program in great detail and at times is accompanied by the guest artist. Attendees will leave this free pre-concert lecture feeling informed about the evening’s program.

Tickets for the season opener range from $19 to $75. Student Rush tickets are also available 20 minutes prior to performance for $5 cash with current student ID (subject to availability). Tickets are available online at where you will find seating maps, price options and concert information. Tickets are also available at the Austin Symphony Box Office, 11th and Red River or by calling 512.476.6064.
