Stravinsky – The Rite of Spring

Designed by the Chicago Symphony for both classical music aficionados and newcomers to look deeper into the world of classical music, “Beyond the Score” has become a series of multimedia concerts that have delighted audiences since their introduction in 2009. The Austin Symphony brings this educational and entertaining look at Igor Stravinsky’s famous work following the success of Beyond the Score: Dvorak’s “New World” Symphony in January 2011.

The first half of the concert offers a multimedia examination of Igor Stravinsky’s two-part ballet, utilizing narrator/creator Gerard McBurney, actors, and projected images, revealing its context in history, how it fits into the composer’s output of works, the details of Stravinsky’s life that influenced its creation. This presentation shares the illuminating stories found “inside” the music. After intermission, concertgoers return to the hall with newly discovered knowledge to hear a complete, uninterrupted performance of the The Rite of Spring played in its entirety.

Tickets for Beyond the Score with the Austin Symphony range from $23 to $54. Student rush tickets are also available 20 minutes prior to performance for $5 cash and current student ID.
